Sports opportunities in the vicinity of the Eco-Suite Hotel

In almost no other place are town and nature situated within such easy reach as they are in Salzburg. With its characteristic urban hills and urban parks, Salzburg is replete with green areas of calm, whether they are on the flat, way up high or right outside the gates to the city: and they provide superb sports opportunities for you as a guest at the Eco-Suite Hotel Salzburg. Whether you feel like hiking, climbing, cycling, jogging or mountaineering – in Salzburg you needn't leave town.

Jogging

Joggers as well as Nordic walkers and inline skaters, enjoy making use of the routes along the Salzach river, heading north or south. Additional routes lead around the Leopoldskron Lake, to the Salzach Lakes, through Hellbrunn Palace Park and along the Hellbrunn Allee.

Here are some suggestions for superb jogging routes in the city of Mozart. Description of jogging routes and their position on the map of Salzburg.

Cycling

As the most bicycle friendly city in Austria, Salzburg has a very extensive network of cycle paths which connect the city to its surrounding region. Attractive paths lead to destinations such as Oberndorf or Hallein, on the Salzach river. The city of Salzburg is also situated on the Mozartradweg and Tauernradweg cycle paths. Mountain bikers are able to find the ideal training terrain on the Gaisberg or around the Untersberg.

Swimming

Salzburg can offer three stunning open air swimming pools which open each year from 1st May onwards: the Volksgarten pool, the Leopoldskroner pool and the AYA pool, which also features an indoor swimming pool. Additionally, the Paracelsus indoor swimming pool in the Mirabell Gardens is open all year around. In the summer, the Salzach Lakes to the north of Salzburg, not far from the Eco-Suite Hotel, and the Anif Waldbad (forest pool) are popular places to bathe.

Hiking

The city of Mozart nestles on both sides of the river Salzach and is framed by its five local mountains: the Untersberg massif, the Mönchsberg, the Festungsberg and the Nonnberg above the old town, the Kapuzinerberg opposite and the green crest of the Gaisberg. Ambitious mountaineers climb the 1,972 m high Untersberg via the Dopplersteig or Reitsteig paths, while those who prefer to take things easy go by cable car. The Gaisberg is exceptionally popular as a panoramic mountain, and along with the hiking trails, it is also accessible by bus, car or bike via the Gaisbergstraße. The Gaisberg circular hiking trail which commences up at the Zistel (5 km) or the circular Zistel trail (2.5 km) are popular, as are the well-signposted hiking trails such as those starting from the suburb of Aigen. The Mönchsberg, the Festungsberg and the Kapuzinerberg – where you might just see a chamois – invite visitors to embark on a peaceful walk just a few hundred meters from the hurly-burly of the town. A choice of paths lead to the Salzburg city mountains directly from the old town.

In addition to this, the wider Salzburg region also offers numerous hiking areas and tourist destinations.
